In line with Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club of Chitwan organized a Dental & Rheumatic Heart
Diseases Screening Camp(RHD) on 13th September, 2024 benefiting 500 students of Shree Siddhivinayak Secondary School, Bharatpur-11. The camp, conducted in collaboration with the College of Medical Sciences (CMS), focused on a comprehensive examination of students’ health, checking their heart, eyes, teeth, nose, ears, and throat.The program was presided over by Chitwan Rotary Club President Bhanu Sharma, and conducted by SecretaryPurushottam Rijal. CMS Director/ Club Services Project Chair Rtn. Manohar Pradhan, school principal Shiv Koirala, and program coordinator Janak Dhakal also shared their thoughts on the importance of such initiatives. President Rtn. Bhanu Sharma emphasized the club’s commitment to global causes, such as eradicating polio, while also addressing local health needs. He stated that this initiative would encourage the general public to prioritize children’s health and ensure regular checkups. A team of doctors from CMS conducted the examinations, providing critical health assessments for early detection of potential issues. During the camp, Senior Cardiologist Rtn. Dr. Manoj Shrestha identified clinical symptoms of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in six students. These children were ,referred to CMS Medical College for further examination and treatment. Both the Rotary Club and CMS have committed to supporting these children with compulsory re-examinations and necessary treatments. The school and CMS were honored with tokens of appreciation by President Sharma, while the medical team received certificates of appreciation. The camp is expected to have a lasting impact on the students, identifying health concerns and fostering awareness about preventive care. Rotary’s continued commitment to community service, benefiting young students and contributing to the overall health and wellbeing of the local community.
